Here at the Harborne Sash Window Company we speak to people on a daily basis who are looking to change the windows in their home, but many have the question; Timber or uPVC, which is better? There is no definitive answer to this question, however, factors such as budget, level of maintenance and whether you live in a conservation area or not should all be considered.
Timber windows are without doubt more traditional, creating a striking look in period properties and their authenticity is a necessity in many conservation areas. Our timber windows are guaranteed for up to 30 years including 8 years for paint and 5 for stain. Although slightly more expensive than the uPVC option timber can be painted with your choice of RAL or Farrow & Ball colour and if correctly maintained can look their best for many years to come.
There is a wide selection of uPVC windows on the market and they are increasingly becoming a viable and popular alternative to timber. Choosing uPVC over timber would be a more cost effective option and our sash and casement windows are available in a woodgrain effect to help create the look of timber. Our uPVC windows are guaranteed for up to 12 years and require less maintenance which can be an appealing prospect.
